The dead sea scrolls (or qumran caves scrolls) are a collection of manuscripts found in the eastern judaean desert in the west bank in 1946/47 and in 1956. Many scholars believe that a group called the inside the cave, archaeologists also found the remains of items used to store scrolls — jars, textiles, rope and string.
The cave was looted long before the archeologists excavated it, but inside they found telltale signs that scrolls had been there:
